The natural bacteria in your mouth are pervasive by nature. They don’t miss an opportunity to exploit a weak spot in your tooth enamel. This begins with a common cavity, but left unchecked this cavity can quickly develop into a serious situation. Should the area of decay extend down into the internal structures of the tooth, Dr. Seth Conley might need to perform a root canal.
Dr. Seth Conley will start by examining the tooth and taking a few X-rays to assess the extent of the decay. Then he will them use a drill to remove all compromised and decayed structures of the tooth. A rubbery, yet firm material called gutta percha is then inserted into the extracted structures to form an abutment.
Dr. Seth Conley will then create an impression of the abutment, and corresponding teeth. This will be sent to a dental lab, to serve as a guide while they make a custom crown. At the end of the appointment, he will secure a hard plastic temporary crown over the abutment to protect it.
Dr. Seth Conley will call you back in for a brief second appointment, once the dental lab is done with your crown. During this appointment he removes the temporary crown and cements your crown over the new abutment.
